FITNESS UPDATE

Friday 17th November 2017

GRANT Gallagher (pictured) and Danny Handling have been missing from action since the beginning of the season with both requiring knee surgery.

Both are making a remarkable recovery and manager Stevie Aitken reveals that Handling could make a return to the first team squad earlier than expected.

He said : “Both lads have shown tremendous courage throughout their spell on the sidelines.

“Their attitude has been superb and are together ahead of schedule.

“Danny is back in training and nearing fitness. It’s too risky for him to play in a full game at the moment, but I’m confident that he’ll be back before too long.

“It’s still going to be a bit of a process of when is the right time for him to get match practice, but things are looking god.

“Grant too is making progress and whilst he’ll be out for a while yet, he’s working hard.

But while both Gallagher and Handling could be valuable assets to the team, Aitken knows that managing the pair during the early months of their returns from such a serious injury will be pivotal.

“You’ve got to remember that you can get a knock-on effect from other injuries, muscle injuries, if you do too much with them too quickly,” Stevie added.

“When they’re back in full training we’ll have to manage their workload.”
