FINE WIN FOR SONS OVER STRANRAER

Saturday 24th August 2019

DUMBARTON secured a well deserved 3-1 win and three more valuable League One points against Stranraer in an absorbing tussle at the C&G Systems Stadium this afternoon.

After a bright start Sons found themselves unfortunate to be behind on 20 minutes – when the Blues’ Leon Murphy curled a free kick from a prime central position into the top corner, after an infringement outside the area.

But Dumbarton were soon back in it. On 25 minutes a cross from the left fell to the feet of Isaac Layne and he slotted the ball into the net to equalise.

More Sons pressure early in the second half almost produced another goal, but Ruaridh Langan headed just over and Conor Scullion could not quite stretch enough to convert from a fine cross to the near post.

Then on 63 minutes great work from Sonstrust Man of the Match Layne set up new loan signing Reghan Tumilty for a superb strike across the face of the goal and in to put Dumbarton 2-1 in front.

That increased to 3-1 when Isaac Layne swivelled round in the box to smash Home a loose ball at the end of a goalmouth scramble.

From then on Sons managed the game well and created another couple of near chances in a solid and creative performance.
