FINE WIN FOR SONS AT OCHILVIEW

Saturday 20th August 2022

A GRITTY performance and a moment of sheer magic has secured another win for Dumbarton, 3-1 away to Stenhousemuir this afternoon.

It was 27 minutes before the first serious chance of the game. A corner dropped to Ryan Blair on the edge of the box, but Conor Brennan turned his effort away.

But six minutes later Sons had the lead. A corner by Blair drifted towards the near post and went straight in, with the home defence seeming to leave it to each other.

It took a deflection off Thomas Orr and was later credited in some outlets as an own goal.

And nine minutes into the second half, Sons definitely found the net themselves, Martin McNiff applying the decisive touch to a long throw by Aaron Lynas at the back post.

Stenny pulled one back on 71 minutes when Euan O’Reilly cut in to score with a low shot.

And they were almost level three minutes later when Finlay Gray headed Sean Crichton’s effort off the line.

But Gray (pictured) had the final say in truly phenomenal style in the last minute. Having run the full length of the pitch, his first shot was blocked at close range, but he found the net at the second time of asking.

Dumbarton are back home next Saturday for their fifth league fixture of the season, against Elgin City.
