FINE WIN FOR SONS AGAINST RAITH

Saturday 21st December 2019

DUMBARTON showed no fear away against SPFL League One leaders Raith Rovers at Starks Park this afternoon, running out 2-0 winners thanks to two crucial first-half goals.

Sons started their final game before Christmas with three changes from last week’s line-up. Layne and Shiels were out, and Carswell and Scullion in.

The changes paid off handsomely just before the half hour.

A lovely flick from Carswell gave Scullion the chance to cross. His delivery was met by Crossan, who beat the Raith keeper with the help of a deflection to put the visitors 1-0 up.

On 41 minutes, Dumbarton were two goals to the good. McKee’s pass was on point and was duly powered home by centre-half McGeever (pictured) to give Dumbarton a secure half-time lead.

After the break Raith started to come into the game, but Sons did not capitulate and fought back.

There were chances for both sides in another busy half, but Dumbarton held firm to claim another important win.
