Saturday 19th January 2013
WITH another determined performance, Dumbarton came from behind away at Airdrie United to claim an important 2-1 win, further strengthening their campaign to stay in the First Division.
Despite a strong start which had the Diamonds on the back foot, Sons found themselves 1-0 down after just 11 minutes, when Ryan Donnelly slotted the ball into the net for the home side following a corner.
Dumbarton pushed back with determination. First Marc McCusker, on 24 minutes, and then Jim Lister, a little after the half hour mark, created an impressive turnaround to achieve a 2-1 lead at half time.
In an entertaining and competitive match, Airdrie United looked the more dangerous of the two sides for significant periods of the second half.
But Dumbarton remained composed and well organised, holding on to their lead until the end. They were assisted by some more great goalkeeping from Jamie Ewings.
Next Saturday Sons are at home to Hamilton Accies in another crunch game. There is a considerable amount of work still to be done, but momentum is now with a revived Dumbarton side under gaffer Ian Murray.
