JAIME WILSON saw the ball coming in from Ross Forbes and gambled.
He got his head to it. And from there, time seemed to stand still.
Hands went to heads. Dumbarton crept into euphoria.
The striker’s first season in senior football may have ended with his own ‘Agueroooo’ moment. Not quite on the same scale, and it wasn’t to win a title, but it meant so much to Sons all the same.
It was one of two goals he got against Peterhead, the first a delightfully-taken effort from a through ball.
With 10 minutes to go, that looked like being for nothing, but Morgyn Neill’s header, and then Jaime’s second in injury time, just gave that glimmer.
Now it is over to East Fife, who Dumbarton need to beat Clyde at Broadwood on Thursday.
Speaking to www.dumbartonfootballclub.com, Jaime said: “We’re delighted to get the three points. We knew what was at stake and we knew we had to win the game, so to get the winner was good.
“It’s my job to help the team out so it helps me. James Wallace said that the ball seemed to move in slow motion but as long as it went in, I’m happy.
“It was a great assist from Ross Forbes as well – he’s put in a few crosses like that this season. Rabin Omar did well to set me up for my first as well.
“I hope that’s the moment that keeps us in League One, I really hope so. I don’t think it should have come to this stage; we should have done better at times, but East Fife can do us a big favour by winning on Thursday.”

Now well ahead of his closest challengers across all competitions, Jaime is now set to be Sons’ top goalscorer this season.
It’s an achievement to savour in his first season with the club.
He added: “The gaffer said that even if the playoffs are to be our fate, just to go out there and win and give ourselves some momentum going into them.
“I’ve never known anything like this in terms of playing football matches – it’s been absolutely crazy playing Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday.
“But as players we would rather play than train and I suppose that while it’s been hard for us, it’s been the same for all the teams.
“It’s been pleasing for me to get up to six goals for the season – but I’m trying to claim a seventh; the goal at Airdrie that went down as an own goal!
“We’ve struggled going forward at times this season but it’s good to score as many as I can.”
