JORDAN McMILLAN is perhaps proof that good things come to those who wait.
He walked into the C&G Systems Stadium on Saturday without having completed 90 minutes since Saturday, July 20.
Until the Falkirk home match, when he came on as a sub, he hadn’t played at all since August.
With Reghan Tumilty unavailable, Jordan had to step up to the plate at right back against Forfar Athletic – and delivered.
A classy performance by the defender made a noticeable contribution to a fine 3-1 victory for Sons.
That result was made even more satisfactory when they were drawn to face a trip to Aberdeen in round four of the William Hill Scottish Cup.
Although Jordan has had his share of time on the sidelines of late, it hasn’t stopped him from getting behind his team-mates.
Speaking to www.dumbartonfootballclub.com, he said: “It was a much-needed 90 minutes. It was good to get a game and a victory to take us through to the next round.
“The boys saw the game for what it was, a cup tie at home to a team in the same league and we did well to win it.
“It’s been a long time coming for me to get 90 minutes under my belt. The manager has been patient with me, which has been very much appreciated.
“I’ve needed to do a bit more on the training ground but I felt a second wind today and felt good, up to the pace of the game.
“It’s always frustrating when you’re not playing games, whether you are not selected or injured. But I’m old enough to know that it’s a team game and I’ve kept upbeat and stuck with the boys.
“I’ve just knuckled down and done a bit more to get fitter, and now I hope I can get a run of games and be there or thereabouts.”
The game was also a chance for Sons to exorcise some frustration after the ending to the 1-1 draw against Falkirk.
Clyde are next up, at Broadwood on Saturday, in the first away game for four weeks, and Jordan is looking forward to his return to Cumbernauld.
He added: “I thoroughly enjoy working with the manager. He’s an experienced boss and I like his manner.
“I’m feeling good about the Clyde game next week. I know their assistant Allan Moore and a couple of their boys, and of course I played there before.
“It’s a good pitch to play on and they are a good footballing side, but hopefully we can get another result.
“We deserved to take three points against Falkirk but if you’d given us a point before it against a side competing for the league I think we’d have taken it.
“The Forfar match got a bit of frustration out of our system about the way it turned out.
“We’re just taking it a game at a time. With the age of the team it’s up to us where we want to go.
“We feel we’ve done OK against everybody in the league and while we know there are challenges ahead, we don’t fear them.”
And speaking before the draw which hands Sons a tie at Pittodrie, who does he want in the next round?
“I’ll take anybody – I’m easy about that. I’m too old for that carry-on. We’ll see who it is and go from there.”
