STUART CARSWELL is off on a stag night.
When asked about the possibility of an extra drink or two being had, he responds: “We’ll see how it goes!”
The possibility, though, has certainly increased by that time.
It’s immaterial whether goals are from 30 yards or 30 millimetres. The midfielder, who this time last year was still awaiting his first senior goal, is always happy with them.
Especially when it’s the third in a 4-0 win over East Fife in your new manager’s first game.
He could hardly miss with a close range finish, but it contributed to a big win which started Jim Duffy’s chapter as Sons manager in style.
Stuart was away for more celebrations afterwards, but had time to tell www.dumbartonfootballclub.com: “It doesn’t matter how far out they are, as long as you score!
“I want to add goals to my game and it’s a great result for everybody.
“To be honest, not much has changed for us, going from Stevie Aitken and Ian Durrant to Jim Duffy as manager.
“We had a lot of high points under Stevie and Ian and if anybody had said to me that they would leave the club with the squad we had at the start of the season, I’d have said no chance.
“Everybody was on their game today and if we keep playing to our potential and it all clicks for us, we’ll do well.
“We’ve just got to take each game as it comes, as in this league there’s not much separating the teams.
“It’s all going to be down to who wants it the most.”
Sons took only six footballing minutes of Duffy’s tenure to get off the mark against the Fifers, with Calum Gallagher opening the scoring.
They never looked back from there, registering the club’s biggest goal haul in 20 months.
Montrose are next up at Links Park, but despite their league position, their victory at Brechin yesterday has Stuart wary of the challenge.
He added: “We scored early today and that was the biggest thing for us.
“But there’s no point in saying that Montrose are bottom of the league when we go there next week. There are two points separating fifth from tenth.
“We must go into every game with the same attitude regardless of who it’s against and if we can play like that, we’ll be alright.”
