A SPIRITED performance, especially in the second half, saw Dumbarton gain a deserved and vital 3-1 victory on the road at Livingston this afternoon.
Both teams looked determined from the outset, but it was the home side who took the lead and began to dominate with a stunning strike from Marc McNulty on 19 minutes.
Shortly before half time, Sons struck back. Andy Graham set up Mitch Megginson, who unleashed a mighty shot into the top of the net to make it 1-1 at the break.
Dumbarton started the second half with increased pace and pressure. A penalty came on 41 minutes, when Paul McGinn was fouled by Connor MacDonald in the area. Chris Turner duly stepped up to the spot to make it 2-1 to Sons.
The final blow came from substitute Bryan Prunty, who tapped the ball home after Jordan Kirkpatrick had swept the ball across to Mark Gilhaney, who wrong footed the Livingston defence to create the chance.
The victory puts Dumbarton in sixth place in the Scottish Championship, ahead of the visit of Alloa Athletic to the Bet Butler Stadium next Saturday.
