DUMBARTON THWARTED BY DUNDEE

Saturday 28th December 2013

SONS endured a frustrating afternoon at Dens Park, going down 3-0 to Dundee despite a strong showing.

A good all-round first half performance from Dumbarton was almost rewarded when Garry Fleming found himself round the keeper after a surging attack.

But the midfielder took a fraction too long to fire home for what seemed a certain goal and his shot was well blocked at point blank range.

Despite chances at both ends the tempestuous game remained goalless at the break.

The second half started in the worst possible way for Sons, with Dundee’s Peter MacDonald grabbing a classic poacher’s goal from a sharp cross.

Minutes later Dumbarton players, fans and bench believed they had equalised when Paul McGinn’s cross was pushed home at close range by Bryan Prunty, but the referee thought the ball had not crossed the line.

Kevin McBride added to Sons’ woes on 81 minutes, with a flying second goal for Dundee, before MacDonald killed the game off with a third on 88 minutes.
