DUMBARTON stung Alloa Athletic with a much needed 2-1 win over the home side in a cinch League One clash.
Manager Stevie Farrell gave starting places to Edin Lynch, Callum Wilson and Conner Duthie as Sons attempted to end their recent run of two draws and five defeats on a visit to the Indodrill Stadium.
Duthie made an immediate impact with a driving run which earned a corner, which he then nodded wide. At the other end Gregor Buchanan was booked in the 13th minute for a foul on Charlie Gilmour. Soon after Ryan Schiavone had a header from a corner cleared, as the visitors dominated.
Kalvin Orsi and Schiavone were both injured in tough challenges midway through the half, but were able to continue. Fernandy Mendy was off target with a header from a corner, and half-time arrived with chances few and far between and the scoresheet still blank.
Sons regained the lead in the 82nd minute when Eoghan Stokes shot home.
The second half began with a run by Carlo Pignatellio setting up Orsi to cross to Schiavone, but keeper David Hutton collected. At the other end a long range shot from Gilmour was diverted by keeper Sam Ramsbottom, then Mendy headed the resultant corner over the bar.
Duthie came close after a Pignatellio cross, then another Duthie run and cross ended with a handball — penalty, and skipper Stuart Carswell (pictured) put Sons ahead from the spot.
However the lead lasted only seven minutes before Conor Sammon headed home a free kick, but soon after Mendy was sent off after a second booking. Next Wilson tried to net a free kick but Hutton saved, and then gathered a Duthie header from a Paddy Boyle corner.
Sons regained the lead in the 82nd minute when Eoghan Stokes netted. Three minutes later Joe McKee replaced Andy Geggan to see out the game.
