DUMBARTON failed again when they lost 3-2 to Peterhead in dense fog.
With Christmas spirit all around the Moreroom.com Stadium on a cold foggy day, manager Stevie Farrell hoped the festive spirit did not extend to his defence as his side looked for a much needed victory. Ross MacLean returned up front.
The first quarter saw action at both ends, but neither goal threatened. However Andy Geggan (pictured) opened the scoring in the 16th minute, heading home Joe McKee’s corner for his second goal of the season.
Five minutes later keeper Sam Ramsbottom kept the lead intact by rushing out to deny a shot.
In the 25th minute the visitors equalised through Josh Mulligan who shot home, but three minutes later Sons regained the lead when a fine move down the left ended with Sam Muir’s cross being netted by Conner Duthie.
It did not last long, as they conceded a penalty which Russell McLean took, Ramsbottom saved, but McLean tapped in the rebound for his ninth goal of the season. Half-time arrived with the scores level.
Four minutes into the second period Geggan headed home a McKee free-kick, but was ruled offside. In the 62nd minute MacLean was booked for a foul on Mulligan, then Muir deflected the free kick over the bar.
Worse was to follow, when the Blue Toon took the lead for the first time when McLean headed home a corner. Sons then sent on Ryan Schiavone for Kalvin Orsi, and in the 73rd minute Carlo Pignatellio shot past.
Next Sons made a double change, Callum Wilson and Eoghan Stokes replacing Pignatellio and Duthie. But frantic efforts to level the score came to nothing, and it was not a merry Christmas for the home side.
