DUMBARTON RESERVES BEAT RAITH CONVINCINGLY

Tuesday 30th April 2013

SONS’ colts claimed a fine 5-2 victory over Raith Rovers in a re-scheduled reserve fixture at Newtongrange Star Football Club’s ground, in Dalkeith, last night.

Alistair McKerracher (pictured) was Dumbarton’s hat-trick hero for the evening, scoring two good goals in the first half, as the team recovered from an early reverse to fight back and lead 2-1 at half time.

The majority of possession had belonged to Sons in the opening 45 minutes. After the break Raith pushed back, but it was the visitors who went further in front thanks to a McKerracher header.

Ryan Metcalfe was next on the score sheet for Sons, slotting home skilfully after benefitting from a fortunate ricochet.

Rovers missed several chances in an end-to-end encounter, but Dumbarton looked especially threatening down the right-hand channel.

In the closing stages of the game Sons were awarded a penalty, which Mark Lamont fired high into the net.

Moments later, Raith claimed their second goal, just before the referee brought an eventful match to an end.

The reserves’ final game of the season is a trip to Queen of the South on Thursday 2nd May.
