DUMBARTON READY TO TAKE ON UNITED

Friday 30th December 2016

SONS take on high-flying Dundee United in the last game of 2016 at the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium on 31st December.

There have been 19 matches played by the Sons on Hogmanay. The last game on this date was in 2005 against Patrick Thistle. The Maryhill team won 2-1 and the game was played at home at the then named Strathclyde Homes Stadium.

On the back of last week’s pulsating 4-4 draw at Somerset Park, Sons will be looking to continue recent good league form.

However, league leaders Dundee United have not lost in the last 6 matches and will provide stiff opposition to Stevie Aitken’s charges.

Manager Stevie Aitken, who is entering a busy period with the transfer window opening next week, is keen to get tomorrow’s game underway.

He said: “Dundee United are the form team at the moment, but this is the type of game that everyone should try to enjoy. United are a huge club and tomorrow’s match is as big as they get, but we shouldn’t be too intimidated.

“We’ve beaten them already this season and at Tannadice we gave them a fright, so we know we can cause problems.”

In team news, winger Andy Stirling is suspended for this game but Sam Stanton is available. Grant Gallagher and Jamie Ewings remain on the injured list and will not feature.
