DUMBARTON face their first challenge of the League One season tomorrow when they visit East Fife.
Gaffer Stevie Aitken is understandably looking forward to tomorrow’s game and the dawn of a brand new season. He said: “It’s always an exciting period in the football calendar and I love the buzz that the anticipation creates.
“It’s been a hectic summer. But as ever it’s been enjoyable. Our league cup campaign was a mixed bag and it ended badly, we can’t hide from that.
“Tomorrow is the start of a fresh challenge and East Fife will make things hard for us, of that, I’ve no doubt. But, we go to Fife with a spring in our step and we are all looking forward to the game.”
Ross Perry, who was substituted early in last week’s game against St Mirren, will miss out tomorrow, but the good news is that the remaining members of the squad are fit and available plus free of any suspensions.
That could mean a debut for Cammy Ballantyne (pictured).
Referee for tomorrow’s match is Grant Irvine and he will be assisted by Joseph Lawson and George Calder.
The Fife club currently have in their ranks four ex-Sons who between them have over 300 appearances at DFC. Scott Agnew leads the way (151 – 35 goals), followed by Mark Docherty (75 – 6 goals), then we have Scott Linton (67 – 1 goal) and finally, there is striker Kevin Smith (14 – 2 goals).
