DUMBARTON have lost 2-0 away to East Fife this afternoon, reducing their cushion over the bottom-placed New Bayview side to three points.
With defender Gregor Buchanan ruled out through illness, Sons manager Stevie Farrell once again had to make enforced changes to his team.
But for the third week in a row, Dumbarton were behind in the opening four minutes, Kyle Connell rolling home the opening goal for East Fife.
After a first half of minimal chances, only a heroic interception by Pat Boyle (pictured) prevented a second home goal early in the second half.
Dumbarton then created opportunities, but there were no takers for a low ball across the goal on too many occasions during the afternoon.
And just after the hour mark, Danny Denholm got the goal that, to all intents and purposes, sealed the three points for the hosts.
A shot by Paul Paton which went over was as close as Sons got to reducing the deficit on another disappointing afternoon.
The final blow of the afternoon came in stoppage time when skipper Stuart Carswell was sent off for dissent.
Dumbarton now have a home double header against Falkirk and Montrose, starting with the Bairns next Saturday.
