DUMBARTON LOSE AT PETERHEAD

Saturday 26th February 2022

A FIRST half collapse was to Dumbarton’s downfall as they lost what turned out to be a lively game against Peterhead at Balmoor Stadium.

Sons were 2-0 down after 10 minutes, with Hamish Ritchie and Russell McLean putting them in firm command of the game.

Paul Paton was then sent off by referee Scott Lambie, a late replacement for Chris Fordyce, after two bookings.

And when Ritchie got his second and Peterhead’s third close to half time, Dumbarton looked set for a long second half.

But goals by Ross MacLean (pictured) and Eoghan Stokes made an unlikely draw seem possible.

MacLean’s afternoon ended early, though, after he also picked up two bookings from referee Lambie.

Grant Savoury then scored a fourth for Peterhead, but Sons continued to rally and Carlo Pignatiello scored their third.

There was to be no equaliser though and despite a valiant second half, Dumbarton dropped back into the bottom two.
