DUMBARTON have claimed an important point from a goalless draw at home to promotion chasers Montrose.
The first half was almost entirely devoid of serious action in front of either goal, although Dumbarton’s general display was an improvement on the recent poor run.
In the second half, Kalvin Orsi sent in a promising cross from the right, but found no takers.
Then in a goalmouth scramble, Stuart Carswell’s shot was rolling towards goal but hacked clear.
Later in the second half a brilliant chance fell the way of Paul Paton, but with the goal at his mercy, the midfielder could not connect properly and lost the chance.
With time running out Montrose were awarded a penalty after a challenge on Blair Lyons, only for Kieran Wright (pictured) to brilliantly save Michael Gardyne’s spot kick.
In injury time, visiting substitute Elijah Simpson was sent off for a poor challenge on Gregor Buchanan.
That was enough to gain a point for Dumbarton, who travel to Alloa next week.
