DUMBARTON have been fortunate to take a point at home to a hardworking Albion Rovers side in a 1-1 draw at home today.
There was an early scare for Sons when Charlie Reilly’s early free kick rebounded to him, and his second shot from distance hit the post and rolled out of play.
The warning was not heeded and familiar mistakes soon came back to haunt them. After a failure to clear the lines, Reilly fired home from a cross from the right.
A further blow came when John Gemmell was forced off injured after only 15 minutes.
But three minutes later, Kalvin Orsi was fouled in the penalty area and Stuart Carswell stepped up to equalise against Rovers from the spot for the second time this season.
In the late stages of the first half, Dumbarton had a major escape. Rovers passed their way towards goal and Blair Malcolm thought his close range finish had crossed the line. The assistant referee remained unmoved.
The second half saw plenty effort, but no further goals, with the visitors looking more likely to score.
After the final whistle, Ryan Wallace was sent off for something said to the referee.
Sons start their Scottish Cup campaign at Cumnock on Friday evening.
