DUMBARTON’S 2021/22 season belatedly gets underway tonight with a Premier Sports Cup group stage tie at home to Stenhousemuir.
With St Mirren having been awarded a 3-0 win for Saturday’s forfeited tie, Sons aim to get off the mark for points in the section this evening.
They will be up against some familiar faces among the Warriors squad, who are also kicking off their season having had no game scheduled on Saturday.
However, manager Stevie Farrell is in no mood for friend reunions and is instead focusing on making a positive start to the campaign.
He said: “We were all very disappointed to have to forfeit the St Mirren game, but given the situation there was no other outcome.
“We are again restricted in numbers tonight, but we have enough to take on the fixture and we’ll look to give it a decent go.
“Stenhousemuir have recruited well over the close season and won’t make it easy for us. We will have to be at our best to take something.
“But we’ve acquitted ourselves well over pre-season and despite the disadvantage we are at, we want to get something on the board tonight.”
Injured duo Paul Paton and Pat Boyle remain out tonight, and four players, currently being kept anonymous, will also be missing as they are isolating following Covid protocols.
In more positive team news, it is hoped that Andy Geggan (pictured) will feature having missed the friendly with Clydebank, and new signing Sam Muir is added to the squad.
If you’re coming to the game tonight, then you should have received an email with details of how and when to enter the stadium.
If you’ve registered to attend and haven’t received this email, then please contact Jacqui Sibbald at jsibbald.dfc@gmail.com as soon as possible.
For away supporters, and those who cannot make the stadium, live streaming of the match is available at dumbartonfc.univtec.com, costing £12.
Referee Matthew MacDermid will oversee tonight’s game, and will have assistance from Chris Rae and Brian Christie.
Should the game end level after 90 minutes, a penalty shootout will decide which team takes the bonus point.
Kick-off tonight is at 7.45pm, and whether in the stadium or online, we’ll hopefully see you then.
