DUMBARTON face the third challenge of their Betfred Cup section tomorrow on a tough trip to Dens Park to play Dundee.
For Sons, the game offers an opportunity to bounce back from a disappointing 2-0 defeat to East Fife on Tuesday – and where better to do it than away to the top seeds in the group?
The game is Sons’ second visit to Dens Park this year. Having bravely held Dundee 0-0 at home in February’s original Scottish Cup tie, they lost the replay 5-0 on Tayside.
More recently, the teams met at Dumbarton in a friendly last month, with Dundee winning 2-1.
Manager Stevie Aitken reports that Jamie Ewings and Darren Barr (injury) and Grant Gallagher (suspension) are unavailable for selection tomorrow. However, Frazer Wright, who missed Tuesday’s game, is back in contention.
Tomorrow’s game is the first of three that Gallagher has to miss. As well as an automatic two-match ban for his dismissal on Tuesday, he also must sit out the league opener at Dunfermline due to a ban carried over from last season for too many bookings.
The Sons Supporters Trust bus leaves Dumbarton Town Centre at noon and seats are still available. Contact Tommy Hughes for details at memsecy@sonstrust.net
