THE Dumbarton FC Board joined other clubs this afternoon in voting to admit the Rangers Newco into the SFL Third Division, the lowest tier of Scottish professional football.
After listening carefully to supporters and stakeholders, considering the available evidence, and taking an active part in recent detailed negotiations, the Board felt with the 24 other clubs who voted the same way that the Third Division option was the best one in the circumstances.
We are acutely aware of the financial challenges that lie ahead for the game and for ourselves. Assurances have been given, further to information transmitted earlier by the governing bodies, and it is projected that the greater part of the settlement will remain in place.
Alongside all other SFL clubs, Dumbarton FC remains committed to a 42-team future for the game in this country, and to the substantial reforms for Scottish football which have come onto the table in these discussions.
The Board thanks all who have made their views known in recent weeks, through correspondence, polling and the recent stakeholders’ meeting.
As the challenges of our season back in the First Division loom, the opportunity now arises for all Sons fans to get behind the club and work for the best possible future for Dumbarton FC.
