CLUB historian Jim Mcallister reckons that Donald McCallum’s 19 second opening goal against Alloa Athletic on Tuesday is the quickest recorded by a Sons player at the club’s present location.
Kick-off was taken, the ball was briefly passed around, Kevin Cawley played a low ball through to McCallum, who wove past the defence and finished. It really was that simple, and all under 20 seconds – 19 to be precise.
And Jim is sure that Donald’s goal will be entered into the record books.
He said : “It is certainly one of the fastest and definitely the quickest I have recorded.
“I days gone past, goals were only recorded as first minute, so I couldn’t say it is absolutely the quickest.
“I did check my records after the game and have nothing else less than 40 seconds.
“Donald’s strike is without doubt the fastest scored at the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium.”
The young striker added: “It was really good on Tuesday.
“I was happy to get a start and to get a goal after 19 seconds was amazing.
“When the chance came I just thought I had to hit it and hope for the best. I don’t know how it came about, but I was through and just had to take my chance.”
