A HUGELY disappointing performance from Dumbarton at Cappielow resulted in a 3-0 defeat away to Morton tonight.
It was a difficult start for Sons, with the ‘Ton coming fast out of the block and grabbing an early goal from the head of an unmarked Rowan Vine ten yards out.
Then concussed Chris Turner had to be replaced by Hugh Murray, and a Dumbarton goal from Chris Kane at close range was disallowed for offside.
Things went from bad to worse before half time, when Thomas O’Ware stole in at the far post to sneak a second headed goal for the Greenock side.
Despite an early Dumbarton flourish after the break, the rot continued when Barrie McKay made it 3-0 to the home side with a fine individual goal following a series of quick raids.
Bryan Prunty and Garry Fleming were brought on shortly afterwards, replacing Colin Nish and Scott Agnew.
But Sons continued to struggle and the hoped-for recovery never came, while Morton put in an extremely positive and impressive display.
Next up for Dumbarton is a visit from Alloa Athletic to the Bet Butler Stadium on Saturday 5th April, when the men from the Rock will be aiming to get straight back to winning ways.
