DISAPPOINTMENT FOR SONS AT MONTROSE

Saturday 15th February 2020

A LATE goal was not enough to salvage a result for Dumbarton this afternoon, as they went down 2-1 away against mid-table SPFL League One rivals Montrose.

It was a tough start when, on 16 minutes, a cross from the right was smartly put into the top corner of the net by Blair Lyons for the home side.

The closest Sons came in the first half was just short of the half hour, when a flick onto the back post was headed wide by Sam Wardrop (pictured).

Then minutes later it looked as if Sons were set to level the score, but Stefan McCluskey’s effort hits the post from just inside the box

After the break it did not take Montrose long to go further ahead. Lyons squared for Graham Webster who slotted home to make it 2-0.

Sons laboured for the rest of the half before PJ Crossan pulled a goal back with a great strike two minutes into time added on.

The 2-1 defeat leaves Dumbarton in sixth place in the division, on 29 points. Next up is a home game against Forfar on Saturday 22nd February.
