DEFEAT FOR SONS AT ALLOA

Saturday 11th April 2015

IT was a disappointing result and performance for Dumbarton this afternoon, as the men from the Rock went down 3-0 to a spritely Alloa Athletic.

In the first half Sons had more chances but could not get any of them on target. By contrast, the Wasps took everything on offer.

First up was Flanigan, putting his side ahead by curling home his free kick after a Scott Agnew foul on McCord.

Then a sublime strike from Cawley found the top corner of Sons’ net from 25 yards, leaving keeper Danny Rogers with no chance.

Dumbarton pressed hard in the early part of the second half, but could not find a way back into the match.

Alloa wrapped up the points when Spence lifted the ball over Rogers and headed Into an empty net to make it 3-0.

Livingston’s victory over Cowdenbeath confirmed Sons as Scotland’s best part-time team for the third season on a row, in spite of the Alloa result.

Next up for Dumbarton is a midweek Stirlingshire Cup semi-final before the visit of Rangers to the Rock next Saturday in the SPFL Championship.
