DUMBARTON stormed back from disappointment last week to claim a positive 3-1 victory over Greenock Morton at the Rock this afternoon.

In an energetic first half Sons went into the lead after a bit of trickery on the wing by new signing Colin Nish set up Mitch Megginson for a header. His first effort went on to the bar, but the young striker was there to nod in from the rebound.

Moments later, however, Morton drew level. Dougie Imrie made no mistake from the spot after Scott Smith was adjudged to have committed a foul in the area.

Dumbarton continued to press forward, creating several chances. The reward came when a slip at the back from the visitors allowed in debutant Nish to tuck his first Sons goal past Derek Gaston just before the break.

Both teams came out battling in the second half, stretching each other on the break in the search for the next goal. It came on 83 minutes with a fine move, cross and header in from substitute Steven McDougall to make it 3-1 to Sons.

Next up for Dumbarton is an all-ticket cup tie on Wednesday night against Premiership side Dundee United, at the Bet Butler Stadium.
