CONGRATULATIONS TO SHAY

Monday 30th May 2016

EVERYONE connected with Dumbarton FC sends hearty congratulations to our former goalkeeper Stephen Grindlay following his Scottish Junior Cup final triumph with Beith Juniors yesterday.

Big Shay made some vital stops during a hard fought 1-1 draw with Pollok over 90 minutes. The game was played at Rugby Park on Sunday 29th May.

In the resulting penalty shoot-out, shown live on BBC Alba, Stephen made two crucial saves to help Beith win the competition for the first time in their history.

Shay has rightly been lauded as the hero of the final in press reports.

Another ex-Son, Robbie Winters, who played at the Rock in 2013, equalised for Pollok towards the end of the game. But it was not to be their day.

Grindlay joined Beith Juniors after leaving Dumbarton at the conclusion of his testimonial season in 2014/15, following more than ten years loyal service to the club during two spells.

Other players who have turned out for both Beith Juniors and Dumbarton in recent years include fellow Sons legends Craig Brittain and John Wight.
