CONGRATULATIONS FROM MSP

Thursday 22nd February 2018

DUMBARTON’S Irn Bru Cup final place has been recognised in the Scottish Parliament, with the area’s MSP, Jackie Baillie, submitting a motion at Holyrood.

Ms Baillie also sent her personal congratulations to the club on its place in the final, which will be played against Inverness CT at McDiarmid Park on Saturday, March 24.

She said: “This is a fantastic achievement and everyone at Dumbarton Football Club, from the players to the coaching staff and all those involved behind the scenes, have done the town proud.

“The whole town is getting behind the Sons and I look forward to a massive travelling support as the team heads to Perth next month for the final.”

Meanwhile, the motion laid down at the Parliament reads: “That the Parliament congratulates Dumbarton Football Club on reaching the final of the Irn Bru Challenge Cup; notes that 500 travelling Dumbarton fans helped their side to a 2-1 victory over Welsh champions The New Saints in the semi-final; praises Dumbarton manager Steve Aitken and skipper Andy Dowie on leading the Sons to one of Scotland’s three major knockout trophies for the first time in 121 years; further notes that they will face Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the final on Saturday 24 March at McDiarmid Park in Perth, and wishes them every success.”
