Dumbarton Football Club have this afternoon issued the following statement:
In a recently published newspaper and online article, a Sons Supporters Trust spokesperson was quoted as stating that the Club’s chairman and board had a ”currently stated position of acquiescence on matters of club ownership”. This is both false and misleading. There is no position, stated or otherwise, of acquiescence on any issues. To allege otherwise would naturally cause grave concern among fans, shareholders and other interested parties. We are grateful, therefore, to David Brownlee, chairman of the Trust, for his retraction of that assertion during a recent meeting with the Club’s chair and vice chair.
We acknowledge that Fraser Clarke, the author of the article, has edited the online version and will report the retraction in print.
For several months there have been meetings, at the instigation of the Club, with representatives of the Sons Trust. We see these as an important way in which to exchange information, ideas and expectations and we are now content that there is a basis upon which these can continue. It is vital that supporters’ views about the future development of the club are represented at a time when we will be collaborating with other essential partners. We remain committed to working with all stakeholders to the benefit of Dumbarton Football Club, its fans and the wider community.
