IT is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of Charlie Green, one of the most successful amateur golfers that Dumbarton (the town) has produced.
The funeral service is on Monday 3rd Feb, 2013 (11.15am) at Cardoss Parish Church.
Born in Dumbarton on August 2, 1932, Green was Scottish amateur champion in 1970, 1982 and 1983.
He won the silver medal as leading amateur in the 1962 Open championship.
And Charlie played in five Walker Cup matches between 1963 and 1973. He was also captain of the GB and Ireland Walker Cup team in 1983 and 1985.
A keen Sons fan too, Charlie was a well kent face at Boghead and was a regular attender at the new stadium.
Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
