DUMBARTON FC’s chairman has welcomed today’s SPFL decision about resolving the current season, and hopes that it will speed up much-needed financial support for our club and for others.
His comments came after the SPFL announced that the directors’ written resolution ending Season 2019/20 in the Ladbrokes Championship, Ladbrokes League 1 and Ladbrokes League 2, has been passed with agreement by 81% of all members.
John Steele said: “My first reaction is relief that this matter has finally been decided, and we are hopefully out of a limbo situation which benefits no-one.
“It is now imperative that the financial settlement is made as soon as possible, so that clubs can receive the money they so desperately need to help them keep going.
“The issue of league reconstruction is now on the table, and we and other clubs will give that careful consideration. Many have been calling for reform within the game, so out of crisis comes opportunity.
“In the meantime, my priority, and that of our board in collaboration with our wonderful fans, is to ensure the future of Dumbarton FC.
“Our crowdfunding campaign remains an important part of that. We are hugely grateful to all who have contributed, and to all who will do so in the coming days. This is a lifeline for us.”
