DUMBARTON chairman John Steele has hailed the contribution of supporters to a close season of positive change at the club.

Supporters arriving at the home end of the C&G Systems Stadium are now being met with a refurbished and repainted concourse, along with cleaner seats, following June’s clean-up at the ground.

The pre-match entertainment which was added to matchdays late last season is set to continue into this campaign, while a successful murder mystery social night boosted the club’s funds.

Input from the Sons Supporters Trust members also ensured reduced season ticket and walk-up prices at DFC. In addition, Saturday’s 2-0 win at East Fife was witnessed by almost a full busload of fans who made use of the Sons Supporters Trust’s travel scheme, plus much more travelling via other methods.

John now hopes that the positive changes, and start to the season, will be reflected with a bumper turnout at this Saturday’s opening home league fixture against Forfar Athletic.

He said: “It’s been quite a close season at Dumbarton – not just in terms of player recruitment, but also off the pitch.

“We’re delighted with how the fans have contributed to the boost we needed.

“Whatever the extent of their contribution – whether it was simply attending the murder mystery, or spending hours getting their hands dirty and painting the concourse – we are very grateful.

“Keeping the progress going will be a continuous process and be in no doubt, it is something we intend to see through.

“Another major positive is how we’ve started the league season. An away day at East Fife was never an easy opening assignment but the performance and result were extremely pleasing.

“The away support was terrific and we hope that will be the case all season, with the supporters trust offering a very good travel package.

“Now we want to see a big turnout when we start business at home in League One against Forfar on Saturday.”

And John highlighted one other contribution the fans still have time to make.

He added: “Season tickets can still be purchased before Saturday’s game, ensuring that they can be used for the full validity period.

“We’d be delighted to sell as many as we can this week, and we’ll be pushing them hard.

“If you were in doubt, we hope that Saturday’s result has made your mind up.”
