CANADIAN YOUNGSTERS VISIT THE ROCK

Tuesday 16th July 2013

FORTY Canadian guests visited the Rock this weekend, as members of the Darlington Soccer Club from Ontario came to watch Dumbarton in action against Partick Thistle.

U14 Girls Titans and U16 Boys Dragons players and staff from the Club spent a sunny Saturday afternoon at the Stadium as part of their Scottish and Scandanavian tour.

This has included exhibition matches for both the girls and boys, plus time at the national sports training centre in Largs.

“We’ve really enjoyed our visit to Dumbarton and the hospitality we’ve received in Scotland,” said Darlington’s Head Coach, Stuart Robertson.

“Our Club was actually founded in the 1880s by Scots immigrants to Canada, so we already have strong links,” he added.

Before the Sons-Jags friendly the whole Darlington SC group (pictured) posed for photos on the pitch at the Bet Butler Stadium.

There will be more about the visit in the next full edition of our match day magazine, Sons View.

Sons have developed quite a few international connections in recent years. These include a youth team in the Gambia, the growing Swiss Supporters Club, and a number of friends in North America.

This week Darlington SC are participating in the Gothia Cup International Youth Soccer Tournament in Sweden, which ends on 20th July. We wish them all the best!
