DUMBARTON suffered a miserable time in Paisley tonight, going down 5-0 to an ebullient St Mirren.
In the opening exchanges the Buddies mostly dictated play, but Sons had a few half chances.
Then on 13 minutes Lewis Morgan found space on the edge of the box and finished well into the far corner of the net to give the hosts an early 1-0 lead.
Just after the half hour Saints broke from a Sons attack and Liam Smith was the one who eventually bundled the ball over the line for 2-0 after a scramble on the goal line.
Four minutes after the break it was 3-0 to St Mirren, as Danny Mullen met the ball at the near post to fire home and leave Dumbarton with a mountain to climb.
Goalie Scott Gallacher did well to block a fourth goal on 57 minutes, but could not prevent Gavin Reilly from scoring 13 minutes later, just after he came on as a substitute.
On 86 minutes the Buddies went nap. A fantastic strike from Morgan arrowed its way into the top corner, just beyond Gallacher’s fingertips.
Next up for Sons is a visit to the Rock from on-form Livingston on Saturday afternoon.
