DUMBARTON are delighted to announce that midfielder Ross Forbes has returned to the club nine years on from when he won the old SFL Third Division title with them.
The 29-year-old has signed a one-year deal following his release from Morton, and he becomes the latest member of Stevie Aitken’s squad for the new campaign.
As well as turning out as a loanee from Motherwell in the 2008/09 season, Ross has played one further game for the club, as a trialist against Partick Thistle in August 2012.
Since his loan spell, he has enjoyed a fine career in the top two divisions of Scottish football, winning Scotland under-21 caps along the way.
Stevie said: “Ross’s quality as a player has been evident for many years and to bring him back to Dumbarton is something we consider to be a real coup.
“He’s been very receptive since we first made our interest known and we’re confident he’ll be a major asset to us.
“As far as we are concerned, his arrival could be a major part of us achieving our ambitions this season.”
Chairman John Steele added: “This is a signing that will delight our supporters and which certainly delights us.
“This is a player who has done it at the highest level of Scottish football, winning under-21 caps and playing regularly in the top division.
“It is a journey which properly began at Dumbarton — and in the 10th anniversary of that historic season, it is fitting that one of the players who won the title should return to the club.”
Ross is one of only four of that squad still playing in what is now the SPFL, the others being Andy Geggan (Ayr United) and Pat Boyle and Michael Dunlop (Peterhead).
