BOOST FOR SONS WITH 4-2 WIN OVER BRECHIN

Friday 4th May 2012

A salvo of second half goals at the Rock, including a superb hat-trick from Craig Dargo, enabled Dumbarton to see off Brechin City with a 4-2 victory in the last official home game of the season.

Sons’ youth-oriented team played adventurously. The first half ended with a blank score sheet and little separating the teams. But it was after the break that the game really swung into action.

First Charlie King opened the scoring for Brechin on 53 minutes. Dumbarton struck back five minutes later, when David Gray put Dargo through. He lifted the ball over City ‘keeper David Scott to make it 1-1.

On 62 minutes Pat Walker and Gray combined superbly and Dargo added his second with a flying close-range header. His third came ten minutes later, with another fine header.

Brechin, who failed to take several other good chances, pulled the score back to 3-2 through Craig Molloy on 88 minutes.

Then deep into time added on, debutant Glenn Thomson fired home to finish the job for Sons after a further quality assist from Gray.

The 4-2 win provides the best possible boost for Dumbarton ahead of Wednesday night’s important home promotion play-off tie against Arbroath.
