IT is with very deep sadness that we have learned that Billy Lamont, who managed Dumbarton to the Second Division championship in 1992 in his second spell as our manager, has died aged 85.
Billy first came to us as manager in 1981 after a successful spell in charge of East Stirlingshire. He managed us until February 1984, when he left to manage Falkirk.
After his hard work over the campaign to date, Dumbarton were promoted to the Premier Division at the end of that season.
He returned as manager in April 1990, and two years later saw the club to the Second Division title. He left again at the end of the following season, in May 1993, to take over at Alloa Athletic after helping Sons secure survival in the First Division.
In between his two stints as Sons manager, Billy also managed Partick Thistle before a second spell at Falkirk.
His contribution to our club’s history will never be forgotten.
The thoughts of all at Dumbarton FC are with Billy’s family and friends at this sad time.
