BIG-HEARTED GESTURE BY CLUB POET

Saturday 7th December 2019

DFC bard Stephen Watt had a Christmas windfall courtesy of a fundraising football card run for the club by fans – and immediately shared his winnings with less fortunate people ahead of Christmas.

Supporter Gillie Brough ran the card with the aim of raising £1,000, split evenly between the club and the winner.

It sold out quickly and Stephen was declared the winner when the winning team was scratched off.

But with Christmas just round the corner, Stephen has decided to give £250 of his £500 winnings to West Dunbartonshire Community Foodshare.

Stephen said: “Christmas is a fantastic time of year for some people but it can be a struggle for others.

“I am only too happy to ensure that less fortunate people in our area can have a helping hand during the festive season.”

Gillie added: “We are taken aback by Stephen’s gesture and a huge well done to him.

“As well as supporting people in a less privileged position than himself, this will also help us engage further with the community.

“Many thanks to all those who played – better luck next time!”

Stephen is among the performers at the Sons Supporters Trust’s fundraising Burns Supper on Friday, January 31 at the C&G Systems Stadium.
