SONS make the short trip to the Paisley 2021 Stadium this weekend to play St Mirren in an important Championship clash.
Dumbarton manager Stevie Aitken was in his usual positive frame of mind when we spoke to him this morning, ahead of the big game.
“I’m looking forward to the game tomorrow,” the gaffer declared. “The atmosphere will be good and both teams have something to play for.
“St Mirren have a good team having spent big in the transfer window and it’ll be tough for us, no doubt.
“But I have a group of players who have performed well this season so we go into the match with confidence.”
The referee will be Steven Kirkland, who has been involved in two Sons matches this season. The first was a 2-2 draw with Dunfermline Athletic on 16th October.
Unfortunately his second outing was a 2-1 defeat against Queen of the South in January.
The assistants are David Roome and Liam Butler.
Last season’s meetings between the two teams were: Saturday 15th August 2015 – St Mirren 1 Dumbarton 2; Saturday 12th December 2015 – Dumbarton 1 St Mirren 0; Saturday 20th February 2016 – St Mirren 1 Dumbarton 0; Saturday 23rd April 2016 – Dumbarton 2 St Mirren 1.
In Sons player news, Garry Fleming will be missing as he completes a two-match suspension following his red card at Somerset Park last month.
Mark Docherty is a doubt, as he has beensuffering from ‘flu; but Christian Nade is available for selection having served a one-match ban against Morton last Saturday.
