IT is with very deep sadness that we have learned that Bertie Auld, a former Dumbarton player and manager, has passed away aged 83.
Bertie had two spells as a Sons player between 1954 and 1957, during which he played 35 games and scored 11 goals. He made his debut aged only 16. The statistics for his time with us as a player can be seen at The Sons Archive.
He of course went on to become one of Celtic’s legendary Lisbon Lions who lifted the European Cup in 1967.
Bertie then returned to Dumbarton for a nine-month spell as manager in 1988.
The thoughts of all at Dumbarton FC are with Bertie’s family and friends at this sad time.
