DUMBARTON return to League One action tonight with a challenging game against third-placed Montrose as the division enters the closing pre-split stages.
This is the first of three games between today and Saturday, off the back of Saturday’s cup tie against Aberdeen – a hugely demanding schedule once again.
Games at home to East Fife and away to Cove Rangers follow, but first up tonight is the home clash against the Gable Endies – which has a 7pm kick-off.
Montrose were convincing winners when the sides first met this season, but Sons gaffer Jim Duffy is hopeful of a closer contest and possibly a reverse result this time around.
He said: “The boys came away from the Aberdeen game with their heads held high and, having had a slightly longer break between matches, will be raring to go tonight.
“We know where our problems have been since we returned to action. We are defending well, but there is not enough happening in front of the opposition goal.
“We are aware that needs to change and we will keep working hard to ensure it changes. The players’ workrate has been first class and we are certain that will remain the case.
“We feel we are due something to go our way, and if that workrate continues then we will earn a break somewhere – hopefully tonight.”
Having released goalkeeper Chris Smith today, Dumbarton also miss the injured trio of Isaac Layne, Joshua Bradley-Hurst and Daniel Church.
Ross Forbes will sit out the second match of his suspension and will be available to face East Fife on Thursday.
After a late cameo role on Saturday, Rico Quitongo could come into contention tonight, while others who were on the bench against Aberdeen may start.
Off the pitch, our commentary team are returning to their role on our streaming service tonight, after sitting out the Aberdeen match due to the live TV coverage by the BBC.
The game remains behind closed doors, and details to stream the game are as per our previous story.
Calum Scott is the referee this evening, and Gordon Crawford and Steven MacDonald will operate as assistant referees.
