DUMBARTON’S latest pre-season workout saw them narrowly lose 2-1 to Stranraer at their New Tinto Park training ground tonight.
Playing in training kit, Sons were a goal down at half time after Craig Malcolm opened the scoring late in the first half.
But Andy Stirling (pictured) equalised against his former club soon after the restart and, for much of the second half, it looked like the spoils would be shared.
A raft of trialists were given their second run-out in 24 hours as substitutes, but Stranraer won late on with a goal by Calvin Kemp.
Sons started: Ewings; Pettigrew, Docherty, Wright, Buchanan, Fleming, Smith, Stevenson, Thomson, Gallagher, Stirling.
McCallum and four trialists replaced the final five named starting players in the second half, but one of the trialists, Robert Tatar, had to go off injured soon afterwards and was replaced by Ryan Clark.
Next up for Sons is Saturday’s home friendly with Motherwell, which kicks off at 12.30pm.
