ANOTHER STEP FORWARD FOR NAT

Saturday 12th December 2020

NAT WEDDERBURN just wanted Dumbarton to move forward from getting a point at Firhill.

Little did he know he’d be exactly the man to help them do it.

Six minutes into the second half, the big midfielder headed home Ross Forbes’ free kick for the only goal of the game against Cove Rangers.

And he revealed after the game that the determination was there to build on the draw achieved at Partick Thistle seven days earlier.

Despite a late rally from the visitors, Sons held on to record their second home victory in three league outings at the C&G Systems Stadium this season.

Speaking to www.dumbartonfootballclub.com, Nat said: “We hadn’t won in a while, and at home we want to win as many games as we can, so we’re delighted with the result today.

“In all of our victories this season we have scored first, so it was important to do that today. There were definitely chances for both teams.

“We grew a bit tired in the later stages of the game, but after claiming a point at Partick last week we wanted to bring that into this game.

“We definitely didn’t want to be going to Firhill and getting a point one week and then getting nothing today.

“At the start of the season some people were saying that Cove were the favourites for this season with the players they have, so to beat them makes a statement for us.

“I’ve been very happy since I came to Dumbarton and I’ve been enjoying my football here. All the boys have done well.

“I’ve played alongside a lot of boys who have worked under Jim Duffy and I’m enjoying playing under him.”

Win next week at Montrose and Dumbarton will celebrate Christmas in the top four. Now what a festive season that would be.

Nat added: “That’s exactly what we’ll be looking to do!

“But we know Montrose are a good team and they won again today. We do feel we can go there and get a result.

“After how games have gone recently we felt we were due a result. Some of the games we’ve lost we haven’t played that badly.

“It’s just been a case of getting it right in the final third and getting goals we need to get the win. We did that today and hopefully we can again next week.”
