IT is with deep sadness that Dumbarton Football Club announces the death of former player Andy Jardine.
Andy holds the record for most league appearances in a Sons shirt (298) and his total of 364 games, including cups (66) puts him 3rd in the all time list behind Johnny Graham and Lawrie Williams.
He made his debut against Stranraer on the 10th August 1957 in a 3-1 defeat at Stair Park in the league cup. His first game at Boghead was the following week, in the same competition against Dundee United.
First match that saw Andy pair up with Tommy Govan was the final game of the season against Forfar Ath at Station Park.
This famous DFC full-back duo were together for almost a decade (309 appearances) and their last game together was on the 11th March 1967 in a 1-1 draw against Arbroath at Gayfield.
Andy’s last game for the Sons was an historic match in April 1967 when Dumbarton defeated Third Lanark 5-1 in what was the ‘Hi-Hi’s’ last ever game.
Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
