ALL SQUARE WITH MORTON

Tuesday 29th June 2021

FRESH from a 1-0 home win over Motherwell, Dumbarton faced old rivals Greenock Morton at the C&G Systems Stadium this sunlit evening, but neither side could find the net.

Manager Stevie Farrell fielded a trialist left back, with the subs consisting of five more trialists. Kalvin Orsi was again the main striker, and Ryan McGeever partnered Gregor Buchanan in defence.

The first real chance came in the 20th minute when keeper Sam Ramsbottom kept out a Reece Lyon effort, but four minutes later Sons first chance arrived when Ross MacLean (pictured) set up Orsi, whose curling shot hit the post.

Soon after there was another chance for Sons as this time Orsi provided the pass for MacLean whose shot for the near post hit the side netting.

Despite chances at both ends, half-time arrived at 0-0. Sons made no changes, but Morton sent on a trialist keeper.

He was quickly called into action, making good saves from a Conner Duthie shot and then an Andy Geggan header. Andy was injured making the header, and he had to be replaced by a trialist.

Nine minutes later MacLean hobbled off to be replaced by a trialist, and the visitors made five changes. In the 65th minute Stuart Carswell and Duthie made way for two more trialists. A few minutes later Edin Lynch picked up a knock, and Duthie came back on to replace him.

The game ended still goalless, and Sons now move on to welcoming local rivals Clydebank on Saturday.
