DUMBARTON face a nervous evening on Thursday as a match takes place to decide their survival fate – but they won’t even be playing.
The outcome of Clyde’s match at home to East Fife that night will determine whether Sons will finish eighth or ninth in League One.
It is quite simple – if Clyde fail to win, Sons will finish eighth and survive automatically in League One. If the Bully Wee do triumph, Sons will finish ninth.
That position entails a playoff sequence for a place in the division next season. Ninth in League One will play the semi-final against Stranraer, who last night were confirmed to finish fourth in League Two.
The winner of that tie will then face either Edinburgh City or Elgin City in the final. The ninth-placed League One team will need to win both ties on aggregate to survive in the division, otherwise the winner of the final will clinch promotion with League Two champions Queen’s Park.
If you wish to follow the action from Broadwood on Thursday, don’t forget it’s a 7pm kick-off.
