WE are extremely sorry to have learned that lifelong Dumbarton supporter Alan McDonald has suddenly but peacefully passed away.
Alan was a season ticket holder and a well-known face around the club, often seen in hospitality with his son Paul and their group of friends.
Alan struggled to get to away games over the last few years due to his deteriorating health and Parkinson’s disease.
However, he continued to go to home games, which only came to a stop due to the Covid-19 outbreak last year.
He was excited to start seeing games again this season through the club’s streaming service and continued watching until the recent lockdown.
Alan also boasted great general knowledge and was the strongest player in his and Paul’s all-conquering quiz team.
He is pictured on the set of Channel 4 gameshow 15 to 1, with its then presenter the late William G Stewart, in 1993.
Alan was an extremely popular and well-liked member of our support and will be sadly missed. We are glad that Paul and his family will continue his legacy among our fans.
The thoughts of everybody at Dumbarton FC are with Alan’s friends and family at this sad time.
Funeral arrangements will be posted when known.
