ADVANTAGE TO SONS IN PLAY-OFF SEMIS

Wednesday 9th May 2012

DUMBARTON came from behind in a competitive game against Arbroath at the Rock this evening, taking a 2-1 lead to Gayfield in the First Division play-off semi-final second leg on Saturday.

After a nervy start from both teams, Sons went 1-0 behind on five minutes, when the Red Lichties’ Stuart Malcolm headed in from the far post after an inswinging corner from Josh Falkingham.

Dumbarton were back in the game on 16 minutes, when Tony Wallace followed through from a Craig Dargo drive to make it 1-1.

In the second half Sons struggled with a swirling wind but remained solid at the back and determined in pressing forward.

The winning strike came on the hour, when Bryan Prunty struck a sweet, low drive from a free kick 12 yards out to give Dumbarton a deserved 2-1 lead.

When the match ended the Rock was definitely rocking. Sons now travel to Arbroath on Saturday 12th May where they will seek to finish the job and claim a place in the promotion play-off final.
