Six second-half goals from Aberdeen secured a comfortable win for the home side at Pittodrie this afternoon.
In a fairly even first-half, chances were few and far between at both ends of the park with a couple of goal-line clearances keeping Dumbarton level and at the other end Carlo Pignatiello had the ball in the net, but the offside flag was up.
The second period was only a few seconds old when Jack MacKenzie burst down the left and fired into the far corner before Ester Sokler added another just a couple of minutes later.
Sons failed to get going in the second period as they searched for a way back into the tie with Sokler adding another to put the game out of reach before Peter Ambrose added the fourth on 85 minutes, James McGarry secured number five with Slobodan Rubežić headed in the sixth.
The league season starts next weekend when Dumbarton are back up north to take on Inverness.
